No matter which caliber you go with, stay with a Pmag style receiver. Mags are plentiful and not expensive at all. DPMS is the most common, but there are quite a few others. I have a CMMG now, had a Rock River but wanted to go to Pmags instead of FAL mags. I looked in to building one off of a Mega MaTen matched set, the total was going to run about $1900 with a Noveske barrel and Geiselle trigger. If you run a Noveske/Armalite barrel, you have to use an Armalite BCG, everything else is the same.
I'd go with a 243 if it was going to be for yotes and deer, great for deer, but it may be slightly overgunned for yotes.
