Hornady 60 grain soft point VS Hornady 60 grain Vmax

I have been very happy with the 60 gr vmax for accuracy and coyote stopper.
What would I experience by switching to the 60 grain SP?

I didn't know if it would be worth the time to work up a load for the SP. I don't save hides.

Thanks

I know,..I bought 5 boxes on sale a few years ago.

I haven't worked up a load yet. I have been crippled up all year and haven't been out. The loads are waiting to be shot,..so my impatient mind wants to know who else may have used the sp.

Thanks

The Hornady 60gr SP is the best kept secret of Hornady.

You give up .001 in BC [.265 V-Max, .264 SP]

They accually perform better in terms of stopping power, amd mushroom. IMO.

Plus they are shorter than the V-max, and may work in a -14 twisted tube.

I bought a bunch of those buggers awhile back and loaded them with my benchmark vmax recipe...those sp's can shoot.

All Reloaders:

Read these posts; there are LOTS of bullets that have been catalogued for 20 years that perform as well/better than the Vmax'...for certain or any application.

The Hornady SX/SP lines are very accurate and efficient hunting bullets in the .223. Soft points DO work well as to terminal effects.

So do the Sierra Blitz and various HP and SP designs from 40-60 grains.

The Speer 52 gr. HP is a GREAT hunting bullet.

And, no fuss to working up a load pretty quickly for hunting purposes [just start near the respective powder quantity - presuming its not a maximum or near maximum load - or a bit less, that shoots the Vmax' well].

Of course, otherwise adhere to load manuals, safety, and work up from there.
