Charges Unlikely in Shooting of Attempted Jacksonville Burglars
By: Tony Rawlings

JACKSONVILLE, N.C.– Two Camp Lejeune Marines returned home early Sunday morning to find two men in their house. The intruders didn't make it out of the house alive.

33-year-old, Maurice Skinner and 33-year-old, Diego Everette were identified by police as the men killed in the burglary attempt. Both men are from Jacksonville.

Skinner and Everette were pronounced dead at the scene, but according to Jacksonville Police Chief, Mike Yaniero it is unlikely that anyone will be charged in the shooting.

"The investigation is ongoing, however at this time there is no evidence to suggest that criminal charges be filed."

Chief Yaniero says the department will increase their patrols in the neighborhood.

"We'll be in the neighborhood. We try to stay in those neighborhoods but we will be especially vigilant in that particular neighborhood in the next couple weeks."

Marine Corps officials have not released the names of the Marines who shot the intruders.

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. - Neighbors describe Country Club Drive as "quiet" and "stable". They say it’s hardly a place where anyone would feel unsafe in their own home.

But now, some might be re-evaluating that impression after Jacksonville Police responded to a burglary attempt Sunday just before 2:00 AM.

Police say three victims came home to find two intruders inside. They say that's when the intruders attacked them.

But this burglary doesn't end like one might think. The intruders were shot and killed while all three victims survived.

They were treated at Onslow Memorial Hospital and have since been released.

People at the home today refused to comment on the incident and police have yet to release the names of the victims or why the intruders targeted the home in the first place.

To find out more, 9 On Your Side combed the surrounding homes looking for anyone who knew more information. The neighbors we talked with would not go on camera. But they say several marines from Camp Lejeune live at the home. Police have yet to confirm this information.

One neighbor said he checked on the victims this morning and could only describe them as “traumatized”.

Jacksonville Police Chief Mike Yaniero has scheduled a press conference monday morning to divulge more details.

This investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Jacksonville Police or the Onslow County Crime Stoppers.

I doubt increased patrols will be needed, two scumbags are D.O.A. and the word is out to other hooded figures; time to head to another hood.

You know you having a bad day when you plan a burglary and the 2 marines that live in the house walk in on you...
