Savage model 12 Varmint?

I have it in 22-250 & with 34g Varget, 55g vmax, cci 250 primer, I am getting .430"-.650" groups at 100 yds.
37g W760 gives me the same grouping.

Mine in .22-250 and now 22-243win is bad medicine on coyotes. It comes in at 13 lbs and I hunted hard the last two days with it putting in many miles and still here so they can be used for calling rifles.
I've got lighter, shorter guns but sometimes I'll pack the heavy one around. I figure use it or lose it, gotta stay in shape.

Thanks for the info. I have lighter rifles for calling and carrying, but have some pretty large fields behind my home where a good heavy rifle with a 26" barrel would be the ticket from a good rest.

Yup, have one in .204 Ruger. Runs 15 lbs with bipod and not comfortable to hump around the field. But great to shoot from a rest. Tune your load and you should have a tack driver.

I have both.

Excellent shooters that became very consistent when I upgraded the stocks to Duramaxx and bedded them.

Here are some pics from last year's prairie dog hunt:

I think anyone who varmint shoots should own one. Great rifles, have both, just to heavy to lug around coyote hunting for me so they are my go to rifles for prairie dogs. The weight and 26" barrel, that I seem to hit everything with when I am getting in and out of the truck or walking through the woulds always reminds me why I like a sporter for coyotes. I am still kicking myself for not buying a 12BVSS in 243 that a guy was trying to sell at a local gun show.

I have one in 22-250 and it is a beautiful rifle. I shoot dime size groups at 200 with my reloads. Rifle is great, front heavy but from a rest it's an amazing rifle but if you have to free hand it, I would not recommend it. But rifle shoots great.

My wife shoots a Savage 12 BVSS, aka, the old Varminter in .223rem. The factory barrel was 0.1-0.2MOA from the bench. She also has a Savage 12 VLP-DBM (new version of the Varminter, "Varminter Low Profile-Detachable Box Magazine) that started life as a .300WSM. The new Varminter LP has a more "hunting style" stock, rather than the older Varminter's bench style stock. I prefer the OLD stock personally.

Very good shooters, and look great. Hard to beat the Savage 10/12's for accuracy.

I've had 2 of them. A 22/250 and a 223. I cut 4" off both barrels and re-crowned them. Dropped them in Choate stocks and used them for whistlepigs from stationary shooting positions. Once I got all set up on a field, there weren't too many safe places for a sod hog to hide.

I have a model 12 4x4 "Truck Gun" in 204. It's the 20"barrel version. Still heavy. Still shoots great. Just not quite as much to carry around. It's my go to rig.
