22 Hornet Bullet size -- What's the difference?

I'm thinking about getting a 22 hornet (cz 527 in particular), and I handload.

I've seen that manufacturers produce .223 and .224 bullets that are referred to as hornets.

1. Do bullet manufactures use the term "Hornet" as a reference to bullet geometry?

2. Why are some "hornet" bullets available in .223 diameter? I was under the impression that I could use any .224 bullets in the 30gr. - 45gr. range. Again, I am considering the CZ 527.

This is what the source of my confusion:

Thanks for the input.

The early hornets used a barrel diameter of .223.

Barrels in that size have not been made in over 70 years.

Your rifle uses bullets that are .224 dia.

Bullets that are designated as "Hornet" bullets, use a thinner jacket so they will expand at the lower Hornet velocity.

I am glad you asked this question.

I was buying bullets and found some odd ball 47 gr hp bullets by winchester...with a very open mouth on them...they said 22cal....but nowhere did it say .224...so i figured they were for the hornet,,,all bullets i had seen in the past were marked the same way, without the ".224"

They looked like something that would really put a wound channel in an animal.
