General Bear Seasons...

The regs list that any bear except sows with cubs are ok to hunt.

Then they list a Female Harvest Objective (varying 1-15 bears per unit).

Questions:

1) When do they close a unit? (After only the female numbers are done, or do they count any bear in the total)

2) Is there a way to identify sex from a distance?

Seems like with most areas having only 1 or 2 females available for harvest, those units must close pretty quickly. Is that a fair assumption?

The unit closes at sundown on the wednesday imediately following the time when the total number of sows has been reached. You must call 1-800-970-BEAR before hunting for a list of open/closed units. Only females count in the harvest objective.

Yes, even the units with high numbers of sows sometimes close quickly. But you never know, so be sure to check the above number to find out for sure.

Not with any kind of certainty. Just be sure to look around for cubs before shooting as it is up to you to spot them.

Good luck!
