Saved a bunch of quail chicks today..........

We have a neat place on our back porch where we have coffee. The back edge of the back yard is ringed with old crossties, where the ridge falls sharply away down and into heavy brush.

We are seeing bunches of tiny Gamble's Quail every day now.

Today while we were having our morning coffee, the quail started making quite a fuss down in the brush. My wife spotted ears just over the crossties, and said "Fox!". But it wasn't, it was a big house cat, obviously stalking "our" quail.........

Remington subsonic hollowpoint through the ribcage..........

Quail are happy again......

Excellent! In residential and semi-residential areas stray/feral housecats are one of the worst enemies of quail from what I have seen. Anyway, like the old saying goes, "the only good cat's a dead cat." Isn't it paradoxical how we as hunters will go to great lengths to protect the species we hunt and conserve their habitat? Too bad we don't get near the recognition we should for that.

Great going on the save.

Critr:

Good going and thanks. Some of us do hunt those dangerous predatory birds in between shooting Yotes........
