I've found that they do cache food for a rainy day. we always have a few free ranging poultry of one flavor or another around my place and when it gets cold the coyotes will come in during broad daylight and catch them. one day i follwed a coyotes tracks in the snow and in the brush he had buried in the snow about half a dozen assorted birds that came from my place. smart animals. I've shot two of them over the years when i caught them literally in my wood shed. always have more problems with them when its bitter cold.
