Accuracy: Savage Model 10 Predator

If anyone is questioning the accuracy of the Savage Predator rifles, I just spent the day shooting mine. Out of 11 3-shot groups, ranging from 100-300yds, only two groups were larger than minute of angle, and the first of those was with the scope down at 4.5 power. I had several around half and even a couple around 1/4 MOA. I am pretty happy with it.

I love the accuracy of my 22-250. Took several boxes to find out what it liked best. I tried Hornady, Federal, and Nosler factory ammo and my buddies handloads. Shooting Nosler 55gr at 100yds, I can cover a 3 shot group with a dime. That's shooting out of the back of a pickup w/ a bipod. Only thing with mine, it doesn't like being clean. Groups better when its a little dirty.

wow thats pretty good what is the twist on that gun? I was thinking it was 1 in 9 or 1 in 8 you should try 55 grain and see it it gets even better.

My buddy took his Goose hunting this year and was picking them off by shooting them in the neck! LOL

Needless to say yes they can shoot.

I'd be very careful where I posted that lil tidbit of info.

Yeah, my .223 has a 1 in 9" twist. I have used 55gr bullets before, but I like the 50gr better. I could probably get better groups if I really worked on my handloads, but every .223 I have had really liked these loads, so I stuck with it. I have been thinking about loading some 60gr HPBTs, but really don't have a reason for it at the moment. One of these days I would like to build a couple of custom guns with fast twists.

Those groups are pretty standard from what I've seen of this gun. I've seen a bunch of reviews and almost every one shot under 1/2" with handloads. Heck and few did that with factory loads!

My wife & son bought me a Savage 10 FP in .308 as a "Thank God you made it back from Afghanistan alive" gift. Everytime I come back from a combat deployment they have gotten me something big like that...big screen TV, the Savage, a Rock River Arms M4, etc...

Anyways, I was suprised w/ just how accurate my rifle was right out of the box. After I got my zero set I fired 3 shots at 100 yds...they were all touching. I figured it was going to be accurate, around 3/4 MOA...but not under 1/2 MOA. It is now officially my go to rifle for everything from deer to coyote...however, I'm just starting in coyote hunting. Never hunted them, I'm still in the reaserch & gearing up stage (calls & decoy).

I am pretty new to hunting predators as well and I am really looking at getting a model 10 predator in 22-250.

What kind of prices did you guys pay for them?

I paid 699.00 for my 10 FP. Added a Harris bipod for around $60, BlackHawk adjustable cheek riser for around $30, EGW 20 MOA scope base/rail around $30 or $40, and topped it with a Muller 4x16x50 MilDot Scope w/ illuminated reticle for $250. Great outfit and even though I don't have a $2000 scope on top, I still shoot sub-moa with the rifle!

Well, if anyone is interested in buying this rifle, let me know. I am considering putting it in the classifieds.
