best 220 swift loads

42 grains of RE-17 and a 50 Vmax (or 52 Amax) for right around 4k... RE-17 has turned out to be a great powder for me in the Swift... and .25-06... and .243... etc.

I have a friend that swears by RE-17 in his .220 Swift and .25-06. I've been looking for it to use in the 06 but I can't find it around here, I'm stuck with RE-19.

I've seen speeds of over 3600 fps in the 06 with it and that is some serious speed.

Here's a couple that I have grown fond of over the last 35+ years of shooting Swifts:

38 grains of R-15 with a 50 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip

Same powder charge with a 52 grain Sierra HPBT

43 grains of H414 with a 40 grain Vmax or Nosler BT will turn a ground squirrel into atomized worm food

38 or 39 grains of IMR 4064 with 50 to 52 grain bullets is a long favorite and one of the best loads for any Swift.

Use a standard LR primer with these. None are high pressure loads and all have shot very small groups in my guns.

both my VSF and VSSF love 36.6gr R-15, win primer and 55gr game king, i also shoot a 60 nosler in one of them also

Usually use 43.5 H414 behind a 52 A-max hot in my 0 freebore chamber. Sunday I shot 38grs of Varget behind a 50 V-max 10 shots in .751 not bad for a test load useing a Nikon coyote scope, good hunting scope but not the best for shooting groups. Now if they would have put a dot in the middle of the big circle it be a great scope. Varget looks like it has potential in the swift

IMR 4064 is a Swift's best friend.
40gr Vmax + 4064 = bugholes

I've had great results w/ Varget in my Swift, but if I could only load one powder for it, the choice would be easy and it wouldn't be Varget.

My only load for 30 yrs was 36g BLC2 behind a 50g bullet, very accurate and ran 3650fps.
A pal still uses 41.2g W760 at 3880 fps with a 55gr vmax in both of his Ruger swifts.

What grains are you using.

I get good results with IMR-4831 with 55 grain flat base soft points, better than the plastic tipped boat tails, but you can use them also with this load. 44 grains, which is a maximum charge, 3850 fps. Federal primer, W-W brass.

IMR-4064 is a good powder with Sierra 40 grain HP, if you want to vaporize a prarie dog. 3950 fps.

I had excellent results with 35.5grs of RL15 and the Sierra 60gr HP. Not aa barn burning load only about 3500FPS, but it was very accurate and the groundhogs hated me with it.
