223 and 55 grain V-Max?

I'm asking for a friend about his rifle? Ruger 77 MKII 223 24" barrel 1:12 twist and is new to reloading. 55 grain v-max and his powder is BLC-(2)and 748 and was wondering about a good load for shooting targets and possible prairie dog hunting next year? Any help at all would be great and thanks.

Had good results with the 60 gr. v-max in my model 7 with a 1:12 twist and dont use this without looking in the manual for yourself 24.5 gr. of 748.

Not helpful with the powder but 25.3-25.5 of 8208 xbr lc case and 7 1/2 primer shoot under .500 groups for my buddy at 200 yards through his custom bolt .223 rifle.

Thats exactly what I have and love the it grouping.

As far as your powders you have listed I have not personly used them. But the imr 8208 xbr meter wells burns clean makes for some accurate loads IMO

I had to chuckle when I saw that.
I used 28g W748 & the 55gr vmax for a while, that was 3200 fps +/- and ran about .750"-.900" @ 100yds, then I dropped to 27.5 then to 27g and it started to go .500"-.650", so I ran that for a bit then went back to just using the 50g vmax for all my varminting.
I did use BLc2 @ 27g but they would not group smaller than 1" in my guns, so I dumped that load.
This was used in all my Savage guns, 1/9" twist, 24" bbl.

I have the exact same gun, Ruger Mark II, stainless 223

Best load that I have found:

WCC brass
Rem 7 1/2 primer
27.5g of 748
50g Sierra
Seated .003 off the lands

50g Sierra shoots 5/8" groups and 50g V max and 50g Nosler Ballistic tip will not.

WCC brass
7 1/2 primer
26.5g Win 748
55 Sierra sp
Seated .003 off the lands

For some reason this rifle does not like pointy bullets that I have tried

I shoot that same powder charge using a CCI 450 primer and 55 gr. Speer SP bullets. No pressure signs in any of my rifles, but you may want to work up to it.
