Lohman Predator Challenge...am I SUPPOSED to gutshoot 'em?

Just watched the "Lohman Predator Challenge" video that I borrowed from Sharps_Shooter (was a blast shooting with you today Sharps thanks. Let's do it again FOR REAL when MULE resurfaces!

) and (I wasn't counting but) it seemed that about half of the critters they called in were dispatched by gut-shooting them. Just seemed like they had to be TRYING to hit the 'yotes that far back. Is there a reason I SHOULD gut shoot 'em? I can't think of one except MAYBE to only damage the hide in a less than critical place...seems kinda cruel though.

So what if I was off a little...it's DEAD isn't it? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You know that's one thing that really ticks me off. I hear guys, deer hunters mostly who have a coyote chance by them, say something like this, "Man I laid that coyote low, I think I hit him bad, but it's ONLY a coyote." IT'S ONLY A COYOTE! Bull$hit!

It's my belief that there is no excusable reason to intentionally gut shoot any animal. The goal should be a well placed shot that will minimize any suffering and hasten a quick clean death. Accidents happen though. Probably what happened in the vid. Don't know.

Speaking of gut shooting, I was watching another coyote video and I saw a "kill shot" that was far too back for me, it was a gut shot as well. I just don't understand why they would leave that in the video, do they want to give the anti's all the ammo for free?

I would think that the producers would want just the pristine one shot clean kills on the tape.

But maybe the crank out all the tapes you can for the lowest cost, to make all you can, mentality has taken hold.

I'll get off my soap box now but it kinda resembles the porn industry.

oop's did I just say what I thought I said?

don't take it personnal, I just think we need some classy spokespersons, and if they are making and selling videos then they become the spokesperson.

I know as well as any hunter that clean one shot kills are not easy, but they are possible and with effort they can be the norm. Not that we don't pull the muzzle off once in a while and throw a shot. I just think the makers of the videos should be more selective on their choice of cut's they use.

I'm done now,

flame me into hades..

I agree. The porn comparison is arguable, but I think I understand your point. As much as I love hunting - it still turns my stomach if a shot I make is not a solid one shot stop.

I agree whole heartedly. A one shot, drop em in their tracks shot is what it's all about. There is a certain satifaction in having the animal never know what hit em.

A video that shows less than the best shots is like wearing your dirty underwear on the outside! Inside out! Sure, everybody has made those shots occasionally, but you sure don't jump up and wave a flag saying " Look what I did!!"
Besides, who likes to spend all that time stomping through the boonies looking for a wounded animal when you could be hunting instead?

I have to agree with Mike and all you others.

I have seen to many gut shots and spend more time finding them than I would like too.

But I will never leave a wounded one. Even if it is as some hunters state just a varmint. It is still a gods Creature and should be dispatched properly.

I had called Brad Harris about the shots in
the video we showed to a bunch of boy scouts
without previewing it. One of my best friends
works there,Mr. harris was not very polite
about it ne does no wrong, just how he came
across to me.
