Say no to sent block!

Thanks Kirkman, that was a very interesting article. I don't think I'll be buying any scent block camo. I never did have much faith in the stuff anyway, but you know everytime I want to buy a new piece of camo I look at it.

There really are no shortcuts are there?

Good article. I thought I had read it from another source. I have never had any interest in any type of scent eliminating suit. There are those out there who do believe in them. More power to them if it works for their hunt.

A guys got to breath & do a few other bodily functions. No suit is going to eliminate all that. The first question should always be 'what way is the breeze blowing'?

No problem guys. Glad I could help!

I hate it when big business try's to get my money with a gimmick that does not work.

I have to admit that I have a scent lock suit and a scent blocker suit.

Lets put aside weather they work or not.

I have had deer down wind not bust me with them on, but I have also had deer down wind not bust me when I had on my old carhart bibs that have not been washed in a year and hang in the garage.

Thermals and etc. play a big role and besides.

The only smell I worry about and try to cover now is my trail going in and out. I have had good succes with James Valley Scents for this.

Unless you keep your bow or fire arm in a scent lok bag aswell it is all for not. No bow wax or gun oil occurring naturally in the timber.

The only thing you can do is play the wind and hunt as high in a tree as you feel comfortable.

I never had any faith in the scent eliminator clothes. I'm glad this was written and posted. It should be pinned to the top!

Never really wanted to buy them anyways. Cripes sakes, back in the late 50's 60's and early 70's we never had any of the scent blocking clothing. And always hunted with the wind in our face, and just kept our hunting clothes clean. Never had a problem before. Besides with so many hunters out in the woods, your going to tell me the deer don't realize there are people in the woods. And I always kept my hunting clothes away from any kind of of forgien odors anyways. I always put my hunting clothes in a plastic bag with either oak leaves, or pine boughs anyways.

Thanks a lot for the info. I sent this article out to at least 6 others. If we all keep up on this type of usefull information, we'll be better off. Thanks for sharing and good job!!!

I'm not trying to start any battles on this topic, but I remain skeptical of both sides claims. I think we all need to look at the big picture of what Mr.Corrigan is trying to accomplish as a public service to consumers is hypocracy on the subject of commercialism of Hunting. Read for yourself the entire articles including the new product Arctic Shield has developed called X scent. Keep in mind Mr.Corrigan's creditials as a Bachelor of Science degree holder in Biology and ten years plus in environmental protection field work is not that impressive to me. Is all this scientific "mumbo jumbo" a slick marketing campaign to push a product that is financially sponsoring Mr.Corrigan's bank account? We are hearing about new and improved products or ideas to help improve our lives all the time. Is this any different? In this area of Biology, my education is limited to my personal experience not backed up with any scientific data. I know I stink, even by washing with anti bacterial and scent elimating products, I still stink to an animal's sense of smell that is far greater than my own. Covering up my odor with a scent elimination suit, head gear and gloves offers a temporary solution until the the maximum absorption capacity is reached. Then where does it go? Since body odor is basically a gas that is lighter than air it floats in to the environment around you.Gotta go somewhere.... I have a scent elimination suit which I use in cool weather, which until now(With the info brought to us by Mr.Corrigan's article.) I thought worked until I thought about the sweating during stalking or movement. I truly don't know if my suit works but now with this article and new product being offered it raises a lot of questions and also confuses me as I am uneducated in this topic. We have to rely on the so called experts to give us as much fact and truth so that we can make informed decesions as consumers not scientists. Who can you trust these days? or ever? I have an open mind to such things and I will try anything (legal of course) that could help me, provided the $$$ are there to take such risks. It always seems I have to find out the facts or fictions for myself, just can't take anybody's word as absolute. As for Mr. Corrigan, my hat is off to you. Fact or fiction you are making some $$$ and have a career that provides you ample time and opportunity to spend outdoors. I will beat myself to death on this subject and ultimately will try this new product. But...I will always hunt into the wind if possible, just to be sure. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif http://www.fastestbows.com/articles/corrigan/scent_suits.hTM

Scent-Control Generation ‘X’ Bowhunters

I never much believed in scents anyway. Murry always told me "hunt into the wind" you will NEVER defeat a deer's nose. Think about it-when you go into a cafe-you can smell the bacon, but can also smell the coffee. A deer can smell the cover scent, and also smell you. Besides their olfactory senses are light years better than ours. You still can't eliminate your breath, exposed skin, gun oil, leather etc--sure I have had deer walk up from downwind while I was sweating during bow season, chewing tobacco, and drinking coffee, but it is not the norm. Position your stand with a natural barrier behind you and "hunt into the wind".

I wear scent lock clothing, but no matter how much you think you're covered up, just play the wind. The first thing I do when deciding the stand for the day is check the wind...I play the wind whether I'm wearing a scent lock suit or not.

this article is right on, I was a biology major for a few years before switching and one of the other points he doesn't make is breathe! unless your wearing a sealed respirator to contain that coffee breath you have, that yote is going to catch it and bolt. theres no point in covering your entire body when your literally blowing human scent into the wind. reading wind direction is your only good bet
