The .25 DTI is up and running!

If not the first, certainly the nastiest!!! What a mud pie!

Mike:

Do you think you can get 2800 fps with 100 grain bullets out of an 18" barrel? Or would it be lower? I'm talking about your .25 DTI of course.

I'm sorry, I missed the question.

I have not shot the 100 grain bullets, but according to Quick-Load 2800 is a walk in the park, even with the 18" barrel.

I have been using Quick-Load for the beginning load development, and have meticulously entered the chamber drawing and imported them. The results that I have gotten have been VERY close to actual chronograph data.

I actually have 14 different powders that yielded over 2800 FPS with a 100 grain bullet and an 18" barrel. A few of them approached 2900 FPS.

Wow! Thanks for the answer. I really like what I am seeing. With the ballistic coefficient of the 100 gr. 25 cal bullet and that velocity, I feel you have a good balance of energy and trajectory. In a package that does not compromise the strengths of the AR. I really like what you have done with this!

Now where do I come up with $800???

LOL! That's easy...... It's the American way: Put it on plastic, and pay for it next month!

I've got some 100gr Nosler Btips & 100gr TSXs loaded up to velocity/pressure test in the .25DTI.
Also, I have some 90gr Sierra Gamekings on order to try as well. If I can't keep either of those 100grainers up over 2800, then the 90gr Sierras will prolly be my deer round for this year. It is a proven game taker at the velocity that the DTI whould push it (just under 3K)...

DTI dies are custom Hornday and very nice indeed. I'm sure Mike will hook you up right...

Finally got to ladder test some more loads for velocity/ pressure in the 25DTI.

100gr Nosler Btips showed pressure & maxed out right about 2700fps. IMHO, it'd prolly smash a whitetail, but I'd rather get some more speed with a slightly lighter bullet. As usual, Mike was right about the DTI being a bit lacking in case capacity for the larger .257 bullet offerings. (that's where the .25WSSM shines

)

On the other hand, the Sierra 90 gr Gamekings showed me >2965fps with both H4895 & TAC and 2910fps with H322. H4895 seemed to hold the accuracy better throughout short ladder.

I also re-ran my coyote load (75gr Vmax/H322) for a goof & got the same 3175-3180fps with outstanding accuracy.

Left my written data home, so I'll add th chrono numbers & charges shortly. But suffice to say that I was quite pleased with the results!!! And I've found a dandy whitetail load in that 90gr Sierra Gameking...

This little 18" mid length system is definitely my favorite hunting AR. Short, light, easy to tote & ballistically very efficient. Definitely a winner, all around...

Keep up the good info. I just found a job and as soon as I get a few paydays I will be ordering a 25DTi. The 18 inch barrel seems to be about the right length and still gets decent velocity. About all one can expect out of an AR15 round!
Thanks again
Greg Harrison

That's a good looking rifle Knockemdown. What type of finish is that? Lets see a full rifle pic now.

I've been interested in this round for a while now. With these types of numbers I think it may need to be my next AR.

thanks HPW! It's just Krylon, sponged on in a couple of messy layers...

here's an older pic with the 3-15x on there.

Now it has my 'baby' 2.5-10x24 NXS on top & that scope is just a perfect compliment to this 18"er...

here's some chrono numbers to digest.
(I'm runnin' moly coated boolits, so you'll need to back off these charges for nekked bullets!!!)

90gr Sierra Gameking(molyed)
H4895
charge--------fps
30.4---------2867
30.7---------2905
31.0---------2933
31.3---------2961 (max)
31.6---------2974

H322
28.4---------2807
28.7---------2820
29.0---------2837
29.3---------2888
29.6---------2908 (max)

TAC powder
30.7---------2814
31.0---------2828
31.3---------2848
31.6---------2924
31.9---------2960 (max)

Same as with the 75grVmax, H322 looks like it'll give me outstanding accuracy with the 90gr Sierra as well.

I'll load some 90s up again now with a max charge of H322 and H4895, just to prove the accuracy of each with some groups.

And, for a goof, the 100gr Nosler Btip (molyed). I didn't get the velocity I'd like, but the consistency of the ladder looked OK.

TAC Powder

29.3---------2589
29.6---------2630
29.9---------2653
30.2---------2672
30.5---------2702 (max)

Yep, think I might be sold.

The Krylon job came out looking really good. I like the color combo too. Had me thinking that maybe dtech was offering custom painting on the AR's.
