22-250 loads for 55 gr

Well, new to the 22-250, a friend got some dies for me to start loading for him.

Without having to go through the usual trials I would go through on my on rifles, what powder is the best all around for the 22-250? And maybe the best charge to go with.
Just looking at my manuals, H380 is pretty common in all and Noslers manual list it as most accurate.

Gonna go with 55 gr noslers becuase I have a lot on hand.
Thanks!

I am a big fan of varget in my 22-250. for a backup powder imr4064. varget gave me better groups. as for charges i use 39.5gr of varget.

work up to this but i use 40 grains of h-380 with a 55 grain nosler. As long as your not shooting in a wide varity
of temps.

Definitely need something not temp picky. Here in Texas will shoot anywhere from 10deg like it is today up to 110 in july and august, so I guess h380 is a bad idea? good to know

Varget is good for extreme temp spreads.Originally Posted By: Big_Tex22Definitely need something not temp picky. Here in Texas will shoot anywhere from 10deg like it is today up to 110 in july and august, so I guess h380 is a bad idea? good to know

I ran Varget through the paces in my 22-250 and found that H4895 was more accurate and faster. The bullets i concentrated on were 55 BT, 52 Amax, and 53 Vmax.

I found zero load data for benchmark in the 22-250. have been told its to fast of burning powder. maybe someone else knows different. love it in my .223 cases though.

Go to hodgdon.com there's info there for Benchmark.

The most accurate loads I've found for my 700 VLS are with 50 and 55 grain Nosler BT's and a stiff load of Benchmark.

A friend on here tipped me off to Benchmark in the 250 and Ive not looked back since... Awesome accuracy with the 50 NBT's havent tried the 55's yet.

Varget 35grs with 55nosler in my 700 sps is shooting sub 1/2" groups at 100 yds.The best part this far north,is no worries on temp range.

H380 and Varget shot excellent in my VSSF 22-250. Max load according to book of Varget with 55gr NBT. My LVSF 22-250 shoots the exact load with a little different seating depth.

35 gr Varget and a 50 gr bullet has been quite accurate in multiple 22-250s I have worked with. Some rifles shot better with a different bullet but the same powder charge.
