I know I know before I get started there are already threads on this gun but most seem to be bashing or questions about it but it seemed that all responses were opinion or word of mouth and no one actually owned one. So here is is.

I bought the gun last Friday the 8th. Got my coyote special scope mounted the 9th then hit the range the 10th.

For an over view IMO it is a very solid gun it didn't seem well balanced but I added a Bi-pod to the front which off set the weight and gave it a great feel.

The action not as smooth as I am use to but I since I am in Alaska and it is very cold I switched to a LAW type lube as supposed to a light oil and it made a world of difference in the bolt pull and push WAY smoother than before.

When I got to the range to zero I fired a few shots at 50yards just to make sure it was at least on paper and man was it LOUD because of the muzzle break but it did do its job there was zero recoil not that there is much from a .223 anyways but it will be good for follow up shots if necessary when yote hunting.

It took me quite a few rounds to get a good zero it was grouping well but the zero was off ( due to a scope ring issue which was eventually worked out) After I got it zeroed' It was a tack driver straight from the box I was shooting .25-.50 3 shot groups @ 100 yards from the bipod.

Oh yeah got it at a great price as well since they are stocking the new model VTRs that are virtually the same except they do not have the muzzle brake slots and the triangle portion doesnt start until the end of the stock they were trying to get rid of these picked it up new for 599 which is about 150 less then MSRP

Wow, only 3 responses, and all positive, on a Rem VTR! After the recent public flogging of them on here, I figured there'd be a 4 page-long diatribe here by now. Good to hear they're working out for you guys. I always thought they were "cool"-looking too, and it's good to hear that they shoot too! Will consider one when I'm looking for my next long-ranger.

I like the non-conventional looks of them. I'm a little surprised no-one makes a cover for the brake to quiet it down when not needed. My regular barrel .223 is loud enough, my braked AR is from what I've been told, retarded loud if you're anywhere other than at the trigger.

Ok, I call dibs on the patent.

I've posted some of my 204 VTR pics before. All of these were taken shortly after I got it with no really load development. Just shooting 34 grn Midway dogtowns. Very accurate rifle. All the groups pictured are 5 shot groups at 100 yards. Since I have printed some really nice groups but haven't taken any more pics. The muzzel brake-while looking cool-should not be on this rifle. The pennies were shot at the end of a short range session with 3 rounds left. I taped up 3 pennies at 100 yds and nailed all of them. Very nice guns. Dave

I gotta ask, i'm picking up a vtr this week in 223, what stock is that?

I have a XHR that I love. It only has the triangle barrel from stock out. It has made me a much better shooter. Only the 3rd rifle i've ever owned and 1st with a great trigger!!

thanks that's a great looking stock. I just picked up my new to me vtr in 223. It currently has a centerpoint scope on top, which is coming off as soon as i get home and get my screwdriver.....
