John Wayne is frequently quoted as saying "Life is hard. Life is harder when you're stupid". After pointing out that a lot of people misspell "you're" as "your", I then pointed out that there's a lot of discussion as whether Wayne actually said that in a movie. I don't want to hijack the original thread anymore, but I DO want to know if John Wayne actually said the above quote. I'm offering 100 Brownie Points if anyone can VERIFY (I want the movie and the scene) this quote.

This is just for fun. Don't anyone get their panties in a wad.

Where, exactly?

That movie is often quoted, but no one's been able to pinpoint the exact scene.

I searched for "life" and "stupid" in this script and came up blank.

 
The line appears in the Peter Yates' 1973 film, The Friends of Eddie Coyle.

The character Jackie Brown (played by Steven Keats) says, "This life's hard, man, but it's harder if you're stupid!"

The movie stars Robert Mitchum, but he's not in the scene where this line is spoken.

John Wayne is not in the cast.
