Getting it narrowed down

My good friend and gun guru said he could work me in this winter. I'm down to 2 potential chamberings. The 280 A.I. or the 284 Winchester. I like the C.O.L.of the 284 Winchester. I can seat things out a little farther before running into magazine length problems. Then again the 280 A.I. has a slight velocity edge. Now I have to nail down the barrel brand,contour,twist. In the spirit of handiness,I'm thinking 22" would be good for length. I don't necessarily like to loose any more velocity than I have to,but I do like a handy rifle.
