R-15 .223 load data???

Just seeing who out there uses the R-15 .223 and what loads are you using for the best results??? I have a few loads made up to break in my new Nikon Prostaff scope. I will be using H335 for powder and 55gr VMAX bullets. I know there's some info on here but I can't find nada! So thanks for your help and your info!

25.3 h335 pushes a 55gr at 3200 fps, nice dog/varmint load and about 3/4" @ 100 in my R15.
23g h335 with a 60gr nosler sp goes about 2900 and is a super dog load groups like above 3/4".
18" bbl on my R15

I had good results with H335 and 55g CT Silvertips at the max recommended on the powder jug label.Remington 7 1/2 primers this was from a DPMS 20" barrel.

Thanks guys for the info. What size of barrels you guys using? I've got the 22" barrel. Did some sighting in today and used some 21.5, 22gr, 22.5gr, 23.2gr and 25gr 335 it seemed that the 22gr grouped better but still trying to find the right formula. Might have to go get me some 60gr VMax's how it sounds.

Jim87,
Alliant recommends 25.5 gr of RL 15 for most 55 gr bullets. I've tested RE-15, H335, Varget and Vihta Vhori N133. All gave good results (@ 100 yds) but my best grouping in a Savage Model 12 VLP come from 25.8 Gr of Varget and 24.8 Gr of VV N133. All were pushing a Sierra 55 gr Matchking bullet.

Thanks again to all of ya. If anybody has anymore combo's that work well post them up. And thanks 5spd, I worked up some loads of that 25.3gr and turned out real good. Which my best groups of 3 shots at 100 yards were all under .928", then at 135 yards was (best) 1.002"- (worst)1.567", finally at 162 yards (best)1.313"- (worst, but was a 6 shot group) 2.287"....

162 yards

If you cant get 25grs of Benchmark in a 223 case you better find a different hobby!

I shoot this load in 2 different AR with Great results.

R-15 1-9 Twist and a S$W M&P OR 1-9 Twist chromed lined barrel.

jim87formula, your not done yet.I think you will eventually get better results if your so inclined to.My best results have been with Accurate 2460 and a 50g VMax Rem 7 1/2 or Win primers another good load for me is a 60g Sierra HP and Accurate 2230. I have picked up 2 lbs of Benchmark and a pound of Ramshot TAC but not tinkered much with them yet.I have had decent results with several powders and bullet combinations, the choices are vast.

Hooked you are actually right! I'm not even close to be done yet. I needed a good load to start out with and have decent results and I needed it quick for one reason.... Going down to Okie and the Longhorn state to do some hog/yote slaying next week. Plus before I had a cheap scope on there and was using factory ammo last year and didn't shoot good at all. Right now its got maybe 200 rounds down the tube, so I'm still breaking her in (also I hope the trigger gets broke in or I need to upgrade fast! LOL) And it really seems that everybody has their 'own' formulas for their R15's and about anything will fly and work. Which one thing I'm looking forward is have touching groups at 100 yards with this gun like reddog. Whats your load data for using the 2230? I have a couple of jugs of that still and haven't used yet. And thanks again for your time and help!!!

wow Sometimes it is better to keep your mouth shut then to make an [beeep] out of yourself rp

My R 15 likes 26 grain Varget, 55 grain v max, Winchester primers. It has a 1 -9 barrel twist and a 18 inch barrel. She is new to me!!

Me too. 26 grains of Varget with either the 50 or 55 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip with some sort of match primer. Lots of 5 leaf clover groups with my AR. My bolt guns like it too- a lot!

Using the Accurate 2230 with a 60g Sierra HP Varminter lit with a Rem.7 1/2 primer good results were found at 23.8g and then it came back in at 25g (25g showed potential to be the best but max recommended is 25.1g ) at a little less than .7 MOA 5rnd 100yrds at the 23.8g loading thats what I settled on. As with any reloading data someone shares with you just remember its best to double check data for yourself, always start a little lower and look for signs of pressure as you go up towards max.If you keep at it you should be able to get groupings like the one reddog posted.I believe he has a .243 Winchester that shoots just as good, as do I. It just takes time and paitience.Good luck with your reloading and hunting.
