My new .22-250 load

After years of loading for my .22-250 I came up with a load that shoots well.
The load is 55 gr. v-max bullet,winchester large rifle primer,remington case,36.5 gr IMR4895, col 2.490".

Testing the load I can cover a 4 shot group at 100yds with a dime. This is the best the gun has ever shot (remington 700 BDL ) I'll try to post a picture of the target later.

I just bought a 22-250 and all i had was some 4895 powder i also loaded v max bullets 50 gr moly but i only used 34 gr and it shoots great also.

Well that's good news to my ears, the only difference I will be using Hodgdon H380 but might have to pick up some of that 4895 after I see some of your pics!

I Like IMR4064 - H380 and VIT. N140 in my 22-250

The N140 gives me 5 shot groups at 100 Yds. that are smaller than a dime. Win. Brass, CCI 200 primer Sierra 52 Gr. HPBT Match bullets.

Never tried the IMR4895.

I've had very good result's in both 12" an 9" twist barrel's, using that powder under Sierra 52 grainer's. Been wanting to try it in a recently aquired 243. I've been foolin around with Varget and some lite bullet's. Result's have been satifactory, but certainly not tack driving as I had with the 250's.

Info only. I've tested several powders (IMR 4895, XBR 8208, Tac, Varget, Vihta Vhouri N133, H335 & RE15) in my Ruger Heavy Barrel M77 22-250 using Sierra 52 gr HPBT's, 53 Gr Sierra Match Kings and 55 Gr Sierra Blitzkings. My best load shot at 100 yds produced 5 shot groups touching using 34.9 Gr of RE15 with 53 Gr Match King Bullets. Might consider giving RE15 a try on your BDL.

Tooltime 2:

If memory serves, 36.5 gr. of IMR 4895 is getting toward the max w/ a 55 gr. bullet, but each rifle is different. IMR 4895 is a great powder for the 22/250

If you are an OH groundhog shooter, try some 40-50 gr. bullets and IMR 4064 ...works well as does AA 2230 powder with the lighter weight bullets, and your BDL has a 1x14 twist so the lighter bullets should shoot really well in that twist.

I hear good things re Ramshot Big Game powder also in the 22/250.

Some great varmint hunting bullets are the 40 gr. Sierra HP and Speer 52 gr. HP, a bit less $$ than the B-Tips and V-maxes.
