243 60 grain HP Sierra

Does anyone shoot the 60 gr Sierra HP in their 243? I loaded up some with RL 15 and didn't have very good results. Just wondering what powder works best with these bulletts. Rifle has a 1:9.25 twist according to the Savage website.

To me that is a light bullet for a .243 with a fast twist. Most .243 have a 1:10 twist. I have great luck with 70-85g bullets in my 1:10 twist using IMR3031. So it may seem that you should go up in bullet length, or into a faster powder?? The barrel length will be important, plug into a on-line reloader.

I wore out a Remington .243 barrel shooting those things. At 3800 they just blew the crap out of prairie dogs and would scatter pieces of jackrabbit in all directions. Crows were a black poof. The powder was W760. Very accurate.

I killed many, many yotes in Mexico with the 60g Sierra, 48g of Win 760 with a fed 210 primer, accuracy is less than 1/2" in one of my current Rem 700's with a 9 1/4" twist.

Win 760, H414, and AA2700 has proven to be excellent preformers with the 55g-62g bullet weights in the 243's.

Velocity was in the 3800 area in my rifles. I sighted in at 200, aimed at the top of their backs to 300...hard to beat. Other powders do not produce the velocity that 760 does, when the bullet is shot at 3650, it drops like a rock after 300.

Good luck!

I too have killed a lot of coyotes over the years with the 60's out of my 700 ADL. 3/4" groups were the norm with IMR4064. I stopped using them because of the lousy BC, they started to fall off the earth after about 300 yards and the wind blew them all over the place.
