Who has gotten delivery and when did you order it.
This will let some of us know how close to getting our orders.
The wait is worse than christmas when I was a kid.
Thanks guys

I talked to Mike on the 7th of January and he told me that there were 36 orders ahead of mine. My order was placed on 2/20/09.

My order:

22" .243 WSSM
compensated/fluted
Norells resin finish

It will be worth the wait.

Make sure you let us see that 243WSSM the second you get it.
Was the 22" with or with out the comp? Mine will be 22" with the comp.

I ordered mine in April was supposed to be six month wait. Then mike had to move and parts availability became issues I guess I'll have it for next season. Hey that's life, I am always a day late and a dollar short.

I just placed an order on Monday. He was very up front about timing. He told me right now, he's on about a 12 month lead time. But...he said a year ago he was getting more orders a week than what was normal for a month. He's got a big bulge of work to get thru and then his lead times will start shortening again as orders have slowed to a more acceptable level.

He felt I'd be at an 8 month lead.

I build custom fishing rods...so I know how that goes. I'm often times 6 months out of rods just because I have so many orders to get thru. And there's always a couple guys that really want something off the wall that throws a big wrench into timelines.

I have bought two DTECH uppers from other members here, they both reported their wait time was 13 months, almost exactly. I have some waiting on, ordered 12/31/09 and he told me realistically it would be around xmas 2010.

Just curious on Dtech's payment policy. Is it 100% payment up front, or due to a sure resale is it something like 20% down until delivery? I really want to pull the trigger on a 243 WSSM, and I'm toying with the idea of pulling the trigger in the next few days.

Guess I'll be calling up Mike tomorrow. I had read about the wait for dtech uppers, but I guess I never considered it would be nearly a year until delivery. Guess that gives me plenty of time to tinker with the lower.

I ordered mine in Aug of '09 and when I ordered Mike thought it would be around April Or May of '10. After the set backs he's had I don't expect it until Aug '10. It will be worth the wait.

Worth the wait for sure. I'm geeked to get on the list. I wanted to be packing a 243WSSM AR never season here in MI (opens late Oct). Guess it'll be more like a 2011 season wrap up.

Is the best way to contact Mike via email or phone? I'd hate to call and take up anyones valuable time; emails are so much less invasive.

I would try to give him a call in the earlier part of the day, before he gets into his work routine, or send him an e-mail requesting him to call you...He's usually pretty good about getting back to you, unless something critical is going on at his end..

I was lucky and ordered my custom upper in the Spring of '08, before the 'rush' started, and had mine back in about two months..At that time, I sent a 50% deposit to start (that way his material is generally paid) and the balance when he was ready to ship, but he may have a set schedule by now...

I have a 243 WSSM and 20 Tactical on order. I waited on ordering hoping that the big push of white house scare would ease. Big mistake on my part should have jump in and got in line a lot sooner. Oh well, Mikes uppers are worth the wait.

I've been busier than a beaver making ammo for it. Have already made Hornady 45,40,32grs, Berger 30, 40gr, Nosler 32gr.
I am seriously considering another in 223 WSSM or 20 Practical

I hope you ordered the 20 tact with a 9" twist, thats the ideal rate for heavier bullets in the 48-55 gr range. New Lapua brass is around 1.745" so its perfect for the longer VLD bullets.

I would get a 1:10 or 1:11 for a 20 tactical. To push the heavier bullets at high speeds, the 20 tactical case doesn't have enough capacity. 20 tactical is good for bullets weights in the 30-45gr range.

Tomorrow it will be 1 year since I ordered my .243 WSSM from Mike and I hope to get that all important phone call here in the next couple of weeks. I should be getting close. I have been buying the little things so that when it arrives I'm ready to go to the range.

Ordered my 243 wssm in april I think. Should have it before I start summer calling. Plenty busy working up loads still for 300 RUM, 40 grainers in 204, and new 22-250 AI. Those 3 guns have been keeping me plenty busy for now. Would still like to find some nice buffered loads for #1 buck shot too. Always out emptying bullets seems trying to beat what is already more than good. Keeps me going during off season.

Got the call from Mike today. My 20TAC should be here first of next week. It's been a long 13 month wait.

I ordered it Feb 2,09. It makes my second DTech upper(243 wssm was first). The four WEEK wait for it seemed like forever.

Hope this inspires everyone to hang in there. Mike's work is worth it.

What loads will you be using?

I have stuff scattered everywhere. I had to even go back to see what I ordered. It should be a fluted 23" barrel with a 1-10 twist. I think I remember buying 500 Midway dogtown 34 gr hp's plus 500-600 45 gr spire point blem's (looked to be Hornady's). Got them for around $8 a box so for case forming I couldn't pass them up if they don't shoot well. I was trying to buy things around the time very little was available. I have a few box's of 40gr v-maxs I've picked up since. As for powder I have some H322, H335, 10X, and some BL-C that should give me something to start with.

I've tracked it to my local UPS hub but it will be Monday before it gets here. Plus there's 4-5 feet of snow on the ground at my local range so it could be a few more days to find somewhere to shoot it(whats a few more days). But I will definitely get it put together and try to post something for you to see.

I just ordered a 25 wssm, 22" fluted barrel with compensator, hogue over-grip in OD green to match my RRA lower. Mike said about 8 months for delivery. I guess it's good to have something to look forward too.

I was told 8 months ago but Mike has moved shop and had parts delays since then. Been a tough 13 month wait but I know what it will do when it arrives. Two friends guns have great attention to detail and shoot lights out.

I talked to Mike today. He said that he is waiting on .243 WSSM barrels to come in. Oly is supposed to be shipping them shortly. He said that he is working on everything else in the mean time. He told me that mine was one of the next to go out just as soon as the .243 WSSM barrels arrive. hopefully in the next two weeks or so.

But I'll gladly wait. My 6X45 is an absolute coyote killer, and I couldn't be happier with it!

Waiting on smaller calibers, I have no interest in the WSSMs. I think Remington 30 AR would be a better option for now. But I will go for the .358 later in the year.

Finally some time to post a picture. The top one is the new 204. 1-10 twist and a 22" barrel. It has a leupold vx -3 4-14x50 with the varmint reticle, the mount is a burris p.e.p.r. It will soon have a fast fire on it also. The bottom is my 223, it is a few years old. 1-8 twist and a 20" barrel. It has a leupold rifleman 3x9x50 with a armalite mount. I can't seem to catch a break with the wind to do some shooting. For those still waiting hang in there.

Here is an update on my 25 wssm.
I spoke with Mike this am as he had a couple of questions regarding my order. I suspect that another week and I'll have a tracking number. As a side note, Mike caught a mistake in my order and that is why he called. I'll post photos when it arrives. I can hardly wait!

Finally a break in the wind. This picture is a start up load with my new dtech 204. Both pictures were the same load and bullet. 40 grain v max with 25.5 grains of h335. The picture on the left was with remington 7 1\2 small rifle bench rest. The one on the right was with cci small rifle primers. I also shot some hornady factory loads. It looked alot like the picture on the left. I will be trying some bergers and blitz kings next.

Here's a pic of my 20TAC. Haven't really had time to shoot it much. The few groups that I shot (while fireforming cases) were around .75" at 100 yd. These were 32gr Midway dogtown's and H335. After I get a few more cases ready I will probably try some V-Max's and some N133.

The secret is to have an upper to use while you're waiting, then sell it off. wink

I would be afraid another Dtech would come up for sale while waiting not be able to pounce on it.....eyeing the Oly upper right now because I don't want to wait.

Well... I should be getting my 7mm-08 next week. Mike has had everything ready to go since around January except the JP Modular Handguard I had on order. I finally had enough waiting, so Mike is putting on a stock Armalite HG which I'll swap out for the JP at a later date.

Picture to follow... laugh

I'll take some tomorrow. She's naked! No scope yet. Still trying to decide what to get.

Blacksheep, 13 month wait and you don't even have a scope??? Wow, you sure know how to torture yourself!
I would have all my test loads ready, scope mounted in a QD mount and take the gun right out of the UPS box on the way to go shoot it if I waited that long.

Of course I have the patience of a 5 year old when I want something. I had to wait 2 weeks after I got my scope and rifle before I could shoot it because of a back ordered QD mount, that darn near killed me.
Now lets see some Pics!

I've busy with other projects during the wait. I was building my son's G2 in 6.8 SPC and getting it ready for deer season, working up loads ect. As for my new toy. JP trigger installed in my new lower, new grip, tactical latch installed, Magpul trigger guard and several loads worked up. I've been busy. I was at Cabelas looking at a couple Nikon Monarchs 4x16x50 and 5x20x44. I have a Buris PEPR mount to try as soon as I decide on which scope to get. Still may go with a Larue, but I'll try the PEPR first.

Got my 7mm-08 today. Was refreshing the UPS tracking page every 30 minutes at work today, and I jetted out early once I had confirmed delivery. laugh

Was shooting 120gr v-max's over varying charges of H4895.

Would have preferred to shoot at 100 yards, but 150 is more convenient in the backyard range.

Didn't realize until the 43 and 43.5gr loads that my scope was only on 10x instead of 14x. That improved things significantly. Right at MOA excluding the pulled shots which is realistically about all I'm good for on a consistent basis. I also need to get the trigger in my lower worked on. The NM trigger is crisp, but it's heavier than I'm used to which wasn't helping my cause at all.

Not the best pics, but I'm short on time.

Two other things:

Green fiberglass handguard is a loaner from Mike (thanks, Mike). And will be swapped out with a JP V-tac modular hg whenever that shows up.

The red junk around the rings is RTV. I've heard that cuts down on ring marks. We shall see. I'll peel the excess off when it sets up a little better.

I just ordered a .204 22" with a 1/10 twist, armorlite barrel, fluted, compensator. Best guess is an 8 month wait.

I have a couple due probably December-January, after that I'm going to order a 35 WSSM and a Wildcat based on the 30 REM AR (25 REM AR). Already spoke to Redding about the custom dies and PTG for the Reamer.

I ordered mine (a .223 upper) in March of 2009. It's been 16 months now.

I don't want to be a pest by calling and interrupting Mike all the time, but I AM getting anxious.

After 16 months, I'd drop him an e-mail..He's usually pretty good about getting back to you..but that way it's at his convenience, rather than an interruption...

I guess I'm a little impatient. After a 16 month wait on an upper, I would'nt really care if I interupted or not. Sorry, thats a long time.

Yeah, it's been a long wait, but I did buy another one while waiting for this one...a LaRue Stealth. You know, a guy just can't have too many ARs around the house.

I would NEVER say a bad word against Mike. I am sure he builds a fantastic rifle and at a good price. I just can't stand the wait. By the time the rifle was ready, I would have probably spent the money on something else. That just me.

But if the occasion arises that "that special one" pops up for sale and the moneys there, it'll be on its way to my house!!

Mike called me this morning. I didn't answer my cell phone because I didn't recogize the number! I ordered mine October of 2009. It sounds like the rifle will ship in the next few days. 20 tactical with all the bells and whistles. Of course I have no dies, and no bullets! In regard to the wait, I remember I talked to Mike a couple years ago and didn't order partly because I didn't want to wait 8 weeks! Chris

There's a lot of good stuff on the 20 Tact, I can send you a fired case for your AR, I also have an AR in 20 tact made by Mike, You can use it to size your new brass. Cheers

Cool! Someone is actually getting to get their upper in this train-wreck of a thread! I've watched this thread in horror for the months that it's been running, and rarely see anyone post that they got their upper. I know I shipped it... But I just never hear they got it......

I had a record shipping day today. Part of it was due to the long weekend, but some of it was just "all the stars aligned" and everything "clicked" Five different customers will be getting packages from Big-Brown in the next couple of days.

Don't get me wrong. As it's been pointed out by a couple of folks that have not ordered from me, "13 months is a long time" and I am very grateful for those that have waited. I don't like long lead-times anymore than anyone else. I just have to try and figure out a way to get the lead-times down, and keep them down. I don't want to ever have to move my shop again, or see an election like we did a few years ago......

mbkmkk, I have read your posts on here and another forum with great interest. What I have coming is a .243 wssm w/ a 22" Shilen. W/ a Dtech comp. I am so excited to get this, I plan on trying the 95 grn Nosler BT as the go to round. Any load info that you could give me would be very much appreciated. Also, nice shooting with the 1:8" twist. I almost went with that but Mike talked me out of it. Do you have to single load the 105 Amax? BTW, old boy from SD has been pretty quiet lately. LOL

I truly respect you and your knowledege w/ the wssm and look forward to further posts.

Thanks,

Thanks platapus

I am excited for you! w00t

I am very dedicated to the WSSM and know first hand how accurate they are despite what people say.

The 95 grn Nosler BT is my go to bullet also for my 10-twist WSSM's. thumbup

That A-Max is a great bullet. I do single load those for ease at the bench, only because of the Mag locks that we in CA have to have on our AR’s, it is a pain in the A$$, but I have magazines that have the fronts are cut out of them and they work perfect . I have never had problems with the modified magazines with loaded rounds.

I am about to try the 115 D-TAC to see if it will work. I have seen where the 1-8 twist may work when the bullet is pushed fast enough.

I ordered another 8-Twist Upper from Mike with a HMC barrel so it will be lighter to carry and hunt.

Are those screws toward the back of the float tube? If so, can the the tube be removed buy taking out the screws without having to unscrew the whole tube?
just curious

Very nice rig btw.

Got mine Friday, man is it sweet. I sent my scope off for a reticle change and feel it's sacreligious to post any pics of it naked. So as soon as I have some glass on it I will show her off.

I don't want to ever have to move my shop again, or see an election like we did a few years ago.

Amen to the election issues. Yeah the wait time is a long time for a very good reason, Dedicated Technology builds absolutely fantastic rifles and has even more fantastic after the sale customer service. I bought a .223 upper from ole Mike and it was the most accurate rifle of any kind I had ever owned. At the time I wanted the .204 upper and could not afford it as the barrels were more expensive so I settled for the .223. After 15 months I decided I would sell the .223 upper and get a .204 from Mike. When I called the wait time was 7 months, being impatient and wanting it now I called another former sponsor here who had a much smaller lead time of 3 weeks and got the same component upper as Mike could have got me. I SHOULD HAVE NEVER SETTLED. I wish i had never sold the .223 DTech upper I had and I should have been patient and went through Mike anyways.

The new .204 was chopping brass the first time, and then it would not feed when I got it back. Sure the smith said send it back and I will send you a check back for your shipping charges with the repaired upper. I never saw the shipping charges returned to me by the smith on wither occasion I had to send it back. And yes it shoots fine now, but the quality of the product and service was less than you will get with Mike. I never had problem one with the Dtech product itself. I had chambering problems at first called Mike he said push the shoulder back on the brass a bit and you will be set. Sure enough 5 Minutes later the problem was fixed and shooting very well. MORE THAN WORTH THE WAIT.

It took about 11 months. I have had the rifle for two weeks, then I had to work up the courage to figure out how to post pictures again! 20 Tactical, and the scope on it is just for load development, will wearing something much smaller soon! Well worth the wait, only had it out twice. So far it likes 40 grain bergers. Going to try the 50 grain bergers this weekend. Chris

I'm assuming you got a 1:9" twist for the 50 gr bullets? I have one with a 1:10" twist and it doesn't like them at all

Yes it's a 1:9 twist. The rifle shot the 40's very well with minimal work on my part. Not sure how the 50's will do, but I am going to find out! Chris

I ordered and received mine some time ago but haven't posted. They are AWESOME. I had the .25 shooting sub MOA but have a scope issue, charge issue (beam scale) or plain old don't know much about cleaning as it was DIRTY. Gonna get those 75 grain Vmax bullets shooting back to 3490 fps and head out to NoDak with it.

As for the 6x45, I only have 20 rounds down the tube. I ran 20 rounds of 60 gr Sierra HP's (thanks to knockemdown) over AA 2015 through the barrel. Shots 16-20 (higher charge) [beeep] near went into one hole. I've now got it completely scrubbed down (free of copper) and will be converting it to Moly. Gonna start with 70 grain SBK's and AA 2015. It will be sporting an ACE stock and a Bushnell 4200 Elite 2.5-10x40 optic for this coming winter yote hunts.

Those custom comps are Sssswwwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

Just got mine a few weeks ago. It's a 25 wssm, 22" fluted Shilen barrel with integral compensator. It's light, looks great and shoots even better. Just getting started with load development, but already had a 3 shot group that measured .133 and some 5 shot groups around 1/2 inch. The compensator works great. This rifle has about 1/4 the recoil of my 25-06 bolt gun and does not seem any louder. Delivery time was 8 months. To have a super accurate AR with the knock-down power of a 25-05 and very little recoil was well worth the wait.

I received my 25 wssm on the 14th of Dec, 11 months to the day after ordering. 22" SUM fluted, no comp.

And here is a target I just shot with 87 gr and 100 gr Sierras and also my first attempt with 80 gr Barnes TTSX and Big Game in the lower right corner. I should be able to dial those in a little more. The barrel is really starting to get broke in and fouls very little. The only thing lacking so far is speed, all loads are 150 to 200 fps slower than book. But speed isn't everything!
