In 2007 I bought a Rem 700 VLS in .223.
I think it shoots acceptably since all I've ever done to it is adjust the trigger. It has shot some good (by my standards) groups. The best measures .322 outside to outside with five shots.
In 2008 I got a SPS varmint in .243 for my buddy. He's been happy with it. I'm not sure I like it though. The finish on the thing is kind of cheesy. But I do like the feel of the stock. I've seen him shoot a couple five shot groups you could cover with a nickel.
Over all with no more than a do it yourself trigger job these rifles seem to be OK.
