been lookin at some Leupolds and tryin to make up my mind on what i want weather a Leupy or nikon...but was wonderin if leupold will put on target turrets on any scope or does it have to be a particular model and what is the cost of it?

If you are wanting a new scope with Target knobs Leupold website custom shop https://customshop.leupold.com/ will let you spec out different builds to see what they would cost and they will do balistic reticles or engrave balistic info on the knobs like Kenton does. All for a price. There are some other options they make a very nice 6x42 with target knobs (1/8 moa per click) but the reticle is a crosshair dot so not ideal. http://swfa.com/Leupold-6x42-FX-3-Competition-Hunter-Riflescope-P12754.aspx

One scope that I would highly recommend is the Super Sniper 3-9x42 FFP Mil/Mil which is $599.95 it is very nice glass and being FFP the mil dots can bu used for hold over at any power. 1 mil is 3.6 inches at 100 yds and a first focal plane scope mildot reticle is always 3.6 inches between each dot at 100 no matter if its 3x or 6x or 9x so if your 400 yd impact point corresponded to two mils down it would

Target knobs are only $50 a piece, M1 knobs are $60 a piece, and the CDS dials are $90 a piece...and there isn't a discount for getting both installed. I had the M1's put on a scope a few months ago. I had it back in 7 days from the time I put it in the mail.

Also, not sure if all Leupold target knobs are 1/8 MOA but if they are I would look at the M1 knobs or the CDS dials. 1/8 MOA adjustments are a pain in the @ss and really unnecessary IMHO.

Guess I got hosed. Had M1 elevation turrets put on two scopes earlier this year and they were $89.99 apiece, and there absolutely is a discount if you have both done at the same time (elevation and windage).

Probably best for the OP to get it straight from the horse's mouth:

When I sent in mine in February they were $65 (I thought it was $60, but I rechecked the invoice) a piece to have the M1 knobs installed. BUT, I had them both installed and while talking to Leupold reps, they just said they were $65 for each. Never had just one installed and didn't think it would be more expensive to have just one installed. Guess I was wrong.

The numbers I posted above are straight from the Leupold custom shop website.

The difference in price is probably the cost or removing the existing system - the stuff on the Custom website is if you order a new custom built scope then that is the add on price but when you send in a scope you already own its more work. Or possibly they had a sale not sure. The style of target knobs that is tall have been made in both 1/8 and 1/4 moa clicks when you talk to them specify what you want. I wish they would shorten the height of the target knob about half way like they did on the Mk AR scopes but those are 1/2 moa clicks and I want 1/4 moa.

Just got two of my scopes back yesterday from Leupold. I had an M1 Elevation knob put on one scope and it was $90. I had a CDS Elevation knob put on the other scope and it was also $90. You pay the shipping there and Leupold ships it back on their dime.

I haven't had a chance to try them yet. I will note that the CDS turret only has one revolution of adjustment according to the Leupold rep. I haven't even gotten them out of the box to really look at them yet. I'll try to keep you posted.

I have been really surprised that Leupold has not done more to promote the new CDS dials they are a wonderful idea. One of the problems one has with trying to hunt a scope with M1 tactical knobs or the covered target knobs is that they can catch on things or if the rifle was in a saddle scabbard could damage the knob. To me the feel of the clicks on the covered tall target knobs feels better than the clicks on the M1 knobs. Would love to hear your thoughts on the new CDS as you get to use it some. The thing that has caused so much trouble with balistic reticles is that they are only true at the highest power and when it gets dark you need to dial the power down to about 6x to brighten up the scope then the reticle doesnt work for accurate hold over.

Properly functioning M1s and standard Leupy TT's feel the same to me, tension wise. Either can get a bit mushy after a long time. When they do, Leupy fixes 'em. I don't do ballistic reticles. A standard duplex and twistin' turrets never don't work........

I really wasnt too happy wiht the feel of the M1's on my 8.5-25x50 Mk4 after it sat for about 3 months while the rifle got worked on. The tall target turrets always seem to me to feel more crisp on the clicks. Mine may have to take a trip back to leupold. I want to put some TT 's on my FX3 6x42 but not till after deer season's over.

bump this

im looking to get new turrets on my varix III on top of my .308...can somebody break down the advantages of the different turrets...leupolds site isnt currently working..

I spoke to CS at Leupold last week as I have a scope going back for repair.I was quoted $130.00 to change both knobs to M1s.Scope is on the way to them.
