I'm looking for some binoculars, primarily for groundhog hunting. Maybe 10x42 or 10x32.

The Pentax that i just got rid of had a $300 price tag, but they gave me headaches after only 5 or 10 minutes of viewing. I have Swaro 7x30's that are super glass for woods, but I'd like a little more power for long open field hunting.

A guy on anothor Site told me to try the Carson XM-HD 10x42. He has them and loves them.

The Nikon Monarch ATB 10x42's and Leupold Katmai 10x32's both seem seem to be good glass, and are reasonably priced.

Any "best for your money" recommendations from your experiences?

I just bought the Steiner Predator C-5's and I love them. They are clear and nice to look through.

I've tried them all in my budget - around $200. Can't go wrong with Vortex Vulture - 10x50. Very comparable to the Monarch series - and about $150 cheaper if you go with the coyote brown one's.

Another good set of binocs are the Zen-Ray ED2's. I have a pair of 8x43 only because of that is the most power you can have for doing archery shoots, but they are by far the clearest I have ever encountered. And I bought mine for $400.

For ease of viewing for long periods, I'd look for a pair of 7x50's. Your budget dicates what to buy.

I have the Nikon Monarch ATB 10x42's, I can glass all day with out getting "glass eye" or headaches. The only complaint is the outer edge of these blur, but not bad.

FUJINON HB Series are great glasses, but may be out of your price range. B&H photo has them for $680 but well worth the price.

Hmmmm, no headaches with your 7x30 swaro's. Answered your own question, save up for the 10x42 SLC & a doubler. Yea, kinda pricey but no need to buy asprin.

+1 Vortex Vultures

Use a set of 8.5x50 for 3D and they compare with my Brunton Eternas.

Last pair I bought were Leupold Cascades 10x42. I bought them when a sportings good store out here was going under (cheap!!) I think they can be found for around $300. I'm very happy with them, so far so good. I havent had them in extreme cold (under 25) but they have been in Oregon coast sideways rain several times.

I guess if I was to reevaluate what I had wrote I should have said this: " save your money and buy the best that you can afford. While you might not actually think of it, buying a pair of binos is actually an investment. If you buy in the heat of the moment and on a whim, you will probly be sorry later. Go to the local Cabela's, Bass Pro or whatever it might be and look thru several binos. Look at different times of the day, early morning, afternoon for the heat waves, and at dusk if possible. Hopefully one is around or near to where you might live."

I bought my Steiners because I had a 8x30 pair and I used them for 10 years without a problem, durability.
I asked my friend who uses them on his job everyday, he's a trapper, dependability.
I looked thru my friends, comfort. Look slowly thru them, is there a fading, blurry on the edges? You want them as sharp as possible.
