222 remington

I think I'm shooting 23.5gr Benchmark, 50gr Hornady SPSX, CCI BR4 primers. I loaded from 21.5gr up to 23.5gr and they all shot very well. Gonna load 50gr ballistic tips next. The hornady bullet is pretty impressive though. Ryan

I agree about the Hornaday 50gr SPSX's being impressive. They shoot real well out of my AR with 2015 powder. They are also less $$$ than Vmax's.

Actually that is my 222's favorite bullet.

Been doing a lot of load testing for the 222 Rem the last month.
Specifically, I'm testing TAC powder with the Duce. The very best load I've found to date, with TAC, is 22.7 grains of that poeder, Rem 7 1/2 primers and Speer's 52 grain HP bullet. Groups for three shots got into the .2's, at 100 yards. That load also shoots Berger's 50 and 52 grain Varmint bullet well.
The classic load of 19.5 grains of IMR 4198, and many different 50 and 52 grain bullets shoot well. I have a second rifle in 222 that shoots 22.5 grains of Benchmark with a good 50 grain bullet best. RL-7 also delivers good accuracy. I've done some testing of it too, with the 50/52 grain bullets.

I have a rem 700 ADL w/24" bbl and a leupold vx2, 4-12.

I shoot 40g vmax with 21g of IMR-4198, win case, cci 400, 3500fps, and .25" 3 shot groups at 100 yards. This is what I mainly use and it has worked very well for me on varmints and coyotes out to 300 yards. Haven't lost a coyote yet with them, bet I've shot around 15 or so.

19g IMR-4198 w/55g nbt also shoots pretty good, .5" at 3100fps.

24.5g IMR-4895 w/55g hornady SX shoots very very good at 3200fps.

For some reason, my rifle dont like 50g bullets.

Sounds like you have excellent loads.
I've never tried any 40 grain bullets in either of my 222's, but have in a 223. That Sierra 40 grain Blitz shot great. If you have an opportunity, try some.

My standard deuce load used to be a Sierra 1365 with IMR 4198 and a CCI standard primer. This shot pretty well. Then, on a whim, I tried some 40 grain Sierra Blitzkings over RE7 with a Federal Match primer. I stretched my varmint range out 50 yards, gained accuracy over an already good shooter, and get to throw RE7 out of my powder measure which is so smooth the loads are all dead on without using a trickler. Good luck.

twenty-something grains of N133 under a 50 gr Sierra Blitzking, CCIBR4 primer, throws them out at 3450+ fps in a buddy's gun. Crazy fast and accurate for that caliber.

I loaded up 15 rounds with H4895
25.5 grains
55 grain Vmax
Rem. 7 1/2

Shot really well I will load up a full batch of 50. This will be my goto coyote and pdog gun for awhile.

WD - I posted "I think" meaning I'm 99.3% sure of my load when I wrote it. I've since checked and made sure. If someone wants to take that load and not work up to it, it's on them.

Perhaps I should just post absolutes. Not in my nature though. Ryan

i'm kinda thinking all of us reloaders were "rookies" at 1 time. i've been loading for the .222 many years and my very favorite load is 27 grains of win.748 cci s.r.mag's. win. case and the sierra 40 blitzking. the .222 is tailor made for 40-50 grain bullets. most have a 1-14 twist and may not stabilize 55 or more. although i've shot fox at over 300 yards i will say it has a "practical" max range of 275.
