i am sure guys here have a few shortcuts to saving some money other than running to a vet.anyone care to share some tips, websites, supplyhouses and what they do to keep their pet/hounds in top shape.
i just run a pack of beagles and they can really get tore up at times. in the last three years i have been to the vet only two times, once for a punctured eye,and the other for a major eye infection(dog could not stand)which i was suprised i didnt catch in time.
here are some thing i do,they may help ya or they may just be old news for some.i am looking for new ways to save
1st off is fipronil-(frontline)a drug is a drug and to many houndsmen think useing a pesticide(thats what it is)is dangerous.well its not anymore dangerous that feeding dogfood. frontline makes a spray-only 0.29% fipronil.kinda week if you ask me.
frontline is 9.8% fipronil.thats a big watered down version of the stuff.folks say it works.heres what i use.its 9.1% fipronil(almost exactly the same.i use 1 cc(ml)per 25lb of dog

another product i use are the python cattle ear tags.i just slice it and place on the hounds collar.change every 2 months and the bugs stay off or die with 20 hours.i rotate this stuff twice a year
for most anitbiotics i order or get from aquarium supply place.cephalexin is cephalexin, dont matter wheather a vet gives ya a script or you can get it over the counter.anything from amoxicillian, cephalexin, tetracycline, ampicillian can be had for much cheaper than a vets visit.
i had kennel cough this summer after a state hunt,i had it gone in three days and was running my hounds the next weekend by useing tylan(tylosin)
i bought a 500ml bottle for 20 bucks here

here are a few other sites where i stock up and keep an eye on a deal for my medical box------i usually look in the cattle/horse other than the pet section.its harder to get a pig or horse to a vet so they allow over the counter sales of the same stuff.
