This is my carry pistol-Kimber Ultra Carry 11 45ACP Night Sights with Crimson Trace Laser
And this is my question, how do you guys carry in the summer with out anyone seeing your carry pistol??
With this Galco Cop series holster its out in the open and the only way to hide it is to wear a jacket or overshirt or sweatshirt.
How do you carry on hot summer days.

Bottom line, that is a very big gun to try and conceal in hot weather.

Wear a shirt and leave the shirt tail out of your pants.

If you go to an Inside the Waistband Holster (IWB) you can tuck your shirt tail into your pants with just the edge wrapped around the gun butt.. Not the best, but is does work, depending on your body size/frame...

At one time, while putting on a class for some of our rookie officers, I concealed nine firearms of various sizes wearing only a pair of shorts and a 'T'-shirt and none of them spotted them until I started pulling them out in the open to demonstrate the ease of concealment and officer safety concerns...This was half way through the session...

It works, No problem....
I carry a full size Glock G20 in a Bianchi "5" Black Widow (minimalist style)

I also recommend wearing a light t-shirt under the larger untucked shirt so you don't get rubbed raw by your weapon.
You can leave most of the buttons of the large shirt open except for a few at the bottom to keep you weapon concealed. Also by leaving most of the buttons undone it appears like you aren't trying to conceal anything in warm weather.

In Phoenix, I typically wear Tommy Bahama "Hawaiin" shirts with a colorful tee shirt under it (to soak-up sweat).

I can conceal any close-fitting holtered pistol with it. Draw speed is pretty good.

Those "fanny pack" holsters are a "dead" giveaway. The "photographer's vest" is, too.

Best of luck,

Karl in Phoenix

PS: I go no where without a gun.

I carry a very similar weapon and have found that a shirt, preferrably with some color to it and with some type of pattern, the hawaiian shirts for example, makes things a lot easier to hide as they more effectively camouflage the outline if any were to appear. I am of normal stature and routinely carry, but have had no known issues of anyone being aware of the firearm. In this section of the country, heat as well as humidity, are factors that have to be considered.

I would suggest an IWB holster. Make sure it has the high tab on the back side to keep the slide and safety off you. Just stick a untucked t-shirt on and you are ready to go.

I carry an STI Escort(officer size) 1911 in a Milt Sparks Versa Max and it hides very well. I also have a Kimber Pro Carry 2 that fits the same holster. Brigade Gunleather also makes a great quality IWB Holster and if you want to get an over the counter one look at Galco Summer Comfort and Royal Guard. Just remember that high tab, it is a must to prevent chaffin and also keep down the chance of rubbing the safety into an off postition.

Actually you problem sound more indepth than I first understood and I beleive you just need a smaller gun. The Para-ord Warthawg and the Springfield EMP should fit the bill.

I have a HBE Leather Works DC Tuckable for my Kimber Tactical Pro II. Eric Larson builds custom holsters, each order is built to your requirements and turn around is about 3 weeks! The DC is VERY COMFORTABLE. http://www.hbeleatherworks.com

IWB is the only way to go for me, shorts or pants. I carry mine in the small of my back(always were a belt for extra support of the gun). I put on a light T and a thin short sleeve button up. Button bottom two buttons and nobody will every know you are packing. Oh, I carry a Kahr P40 in an Uncle Mike's holster.

I highly recommend the Milt Sparks Versa Max too. For summer wear, a tucked in undershirt with an unbuttoned collared shirt over hides all. Any loose shirt alone not tucked will work too but I prefer to have a shirt under my rig for comfort.

The Alessi Talon Plus holsters are excellent also for IWB carry.

The barrel length is never the issue, it's the grip length and width that makes the difference when trying to conceal.

My favorite carry is a S&W M640 J Frame in 357. In a Galco high ride pushed to the rear it doesn't show. Of course with us chubby guys extra lumps and bulges are not noticed.

I have two 357 640's that I have had ported and they are very controllable.

I try to keep the type of pistol, (size) i carry in line with what/where i will be that day. I'm not a large person and sometimes i just can't have a full size pistol on me without the chance of it showing at the wrong time.

If i need to have a full size on me in hot wheather, i will wear a one size too large lightweight shirt with the tails out. blue

I use a DeSantis 'Tuck This' holster.Has enough room between the holster and belt clip to tuck in your shirt. Even has a spare mag pouch.

In Las Vegas summers I have no problem with carrying and concealing a Springfield Compact 1911 (Officer frame, 4" barrel) in a Milt Sparks VM II holster under a untucked T-shirt.

The quality of the belt is important. It needs to be stiff enough that it doesn't sag. Basic dress belts don't cut it. Blackhawk has some belts that are stiff enough for holding a gun and dressy enough for shirt and tie. Otherwise, I typically run around with a 5.11 riggers style 1.5" nylon belt. It's a double thickness belt and works well.

The grip is the hardest to conceal, so shorter grip lengths and a forward cant holster go a long ways to assist with concealment.

I'm planning on trying a Crossbreed Supertuck holster for a S&W M&P 9mm I picked up last week. During the last week I've just shoved it in a cheap Uncle Mike's belt slide holster that does a terrible job of pulling the gun in, but a heavy shirt over the top of it covers it pretty well. However, as it isn't pulled as tight against the body, it is easy to obtain a full grip with a fast draw time.

Which reminds me of the Blackhawk Serpa holster. It's a decent holster for range wear and open carry, however, it sucks for concealment. The gun is positioned too far out from the body and shifts around in the holster.

So there are trade-offs, generally, the more concealable, the slower to draw.

I carry a XDm .40 with the crossbreed supertuck, no problems concealing with a t-shirt between me and the gun and then an overshirt of some sort.
