Re-barreling a Model 12 LPV

I'm going to be buying a Savage Model 12 LVP in .223 and will be re-barreling it to 17 Remington Fireball with a 20" Shilen barrel. Has anyone had any experience with this combination and care to comment? Thanks in advance.

I'd probably go with the 17 Remington, might as well get the most bang for your buck.

Agreed, it's a lot harder to get 17 or 221 fireball brass than it is to get 223 or 17 remington brass apparently. You also get more velocity out of the 17 rem. As for how the combination will work, a friend uses Shilen barrels on all his Savage rifles and loves them. He shoots a lot of F-Class.
