Les Johnson shoots a?

re: firearms-in addition to all the above,i'm guessin or thinkin that he has used a Rem SP-10 (10ga). he mentioned that in Quest for Coyotes II.

shot-wise....in the above dvd he stated he was using steel T's and it didn't get any better than that.

bullet wise-he has used the 40 grain Nosler ballistic tip (Fed ammo). i too have used this bullet (my handload) on coyotes.....222mag out to a laser'd 320-something last year.also,in a 221 but limit range to

sorry-for being a dope on this posting......i believe he used a Marlin semi-auto in Quest for Coyotes II. not sure the model but i'm guessin it's in 223.

Les has used many different firearms. He now is shooting Howa Axioms in 22-250 and 204. He is carrying an Escort semiauto shotgun in 12 gauge. He shoots 40grain vmaxs or ballistic tips. In all of his years becoming as great as he is he has shot Remington 700s in 22-250 built for him, SP10 with 4buck, Benellis and Browing golds in 12gauge. Jeff used to shoot a HK 630 in 223 and has since picked up the camera. He has became affiliated with Legacy Sports and just loves the accuracy and durability of the howas and escorts. I have never seen Les shoot an AR-15, that doesn't mean he hasn't killed a yote or two with one. Regarding his shooting ability, he is one heck of a shot. Im sure that he is not showing large exit holes when they do occur but i believe the majority of his dogs are shot in center of mass where the bullet is not exiting.
Jeff

HK 630 is the auto loader he used in "the quest" one.

That would be .223 Rem. I have the HK-770 (.308 version) of that rifle. I wish I would have bought the .223, too. I could have had one for $440 NIB. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

Im not callin him out but, howd he get 2 different camera shots on that stand and kill the coyote? one camera on his right and one directly between him and the coyote?

J Cooper is right on the Money. Shotgun wise when I e mailed him he was shooting Pattermaster Choke , Hevi-shot Dead Coyote Escort 12 ga shotgun. My Cousin has met him in person and yes he is a great Ambassodor for our sport.

I did some checking on those howa axioms, I wonder how one sites one in from a bench, they don't look real conducive to using a rear bag, a pretty ugly rifle I think, although I do like howa actions

Marshhawk,

Thank you for your post and I appologize for not making a more timely response.

I primarily shoot a Howa Axiom 22-250 for most of my episodes and occasionaly shoot the 204. Out of the 22-250, I shoot 52 grain Hornady BTHP Match bullets and they are all handloaded. On most shots, the bullet performs great with little damage to the hide, but on instances it will leave an exit hole. I have handloaded alot of different bullets and found that the accuracy and knockdown power of the Hornady Hollowpoints are great for my application. I have been using this bullet since the late 80's, early 90's.

Out of the 204 Howa Axiom, it really likes the 32 gr. V-Max's and I am very impressed with the stopping power of these little bullets.

In Quest for Coyotes, my brother was shooting a H & K model 630, 223.

On the end of the Escort Shotgun is a Patternmaster Choketube. Through the shotgun, I have been shooting Hornady buckshot since this fall.

If the Axioms are not to your liking, take a look at the Howa Hogue's.

Thanks for all of your comments, replies, etc.

Take care and have a great day!
