Finally finished ladder

Finally finished my ladder which was started last spring after a four month hiatus due to health problems.

Was torn between the 4' and 6' ladder but chose the shorter one due to weight and stability considerations. The seat is 5' off the ground.

Looking forward to giving it a try opening week of deer season.

Nice looking ladder. Looks comfortable. I made a fancy one like that that weighed too much to lug around all day. I also used your same seat and found it flexed too much when I wanted to lean back. I also used the same seat base and swivel. It's by far the best seat post and swivel for the money.

Good luck

How about some particulars as to the swivel and seat. Looks like the ladder is aluminum type, not wood. Nice looking ladder.

Think I'd have to install some 'outriggers' if I were to use one of those... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I think I'd get about ready to turn to sit down, lose my balance and we'd both go over..... And I can tell you, I've found I don't bounce like I used to... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I watched Michael J put on a demonstration on his use of a ladder and while I have no doubt that it could really improve the success in a lot of cases,,,,but watching him turn around on the top of one, just increased my pucker factor... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I was a bit concerned about that, too. We'll see if it is a problem. Had a seat like it on a commercial tripod blind that I used occasionally.

I don't plan to lug the ladder around too far. For the most part, there are 20-30 yard strips of brush on both sides of the ranch roads which open up on pastures so 20 - 30 yards will be about as far as I have to carry it.

Purchased the boat seat, pedestal & swivel @ Academy then welded the armrest & rifle rest to the pedestal. The ladder is fiberglass w/aluminum steps from Home Depot. The glass is quite a bit heavier than I would like but much less flex than aluminum.

I know what you mean, OT, on all counts; that's one reason I chose the 4' ladder over the 6'. It is a bit tricky turning around to get in the chair & that's on a smooth cement slab. Hopefully I can set up next to a good mesquite tree ea. time so I can hold on. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

This is the one I built. 6" fiberglass with adjustable shooting rest. Weighed 25 pounds. I took it out and let this guy (glen) use it one stand. He shot a coyote on the first try. He then posed for a few shots after the kill.

I welded this all together using a fishing seat and a 1' pedistool and swivel from a fishing seat. Really not too tough.

Since this one I built a second one with a better adjustable front bar. I also built a video camera mount. What is cool is that the entire seat swivels including the gun rest.
