Welcome to PM! We're are glad you chose to join us in a lively, informative, sometimes humorous but never dull exchange of ideas and information on our favorite subject: Predator Hunting!

Thanks to my dad and late grandfather, I have hunted and fished most of my life. I made my first crude attempts to hunt predators as a kid in the late 1970’s, back in my home state of Washington after discovering in an elderly relative’s basement a 1950’s-era plastic call that a 2d cousin had used decades prior to hunt bobcats. I was soon hooked on calling in critters and as I got older and began to drive I expanded my hunting area from the thick woods of western Washington to the arid shrub steppe of Central and Eastern Washington and, later, to points beyond. What I lacked was the mentorship of experienced callers, I simply didn’t know any and all the hunters in my family focused exclusively on big game. I spent years and years learning slowly, by trial and error, and I had no idea that other predator hunters were out there in any numbers. I discovered PM over five years ago and I was amazed to discover how many predator hunters not only existed but were willing to share their knowledge. I quickly began to refine my techniques and my hunts quickly became more and more productive. I also discovered that a few of the effective techniques and tricks I’d blundered into over the years were helpful to other hunters with whom I shared them via PM postings.

I spent half my childhood growing up in Kirkland, WA, and then moved to Mercer Island, WA, in 1976, graduating from Mercer Island High School in 1982. I received my BA from Seattle University and I am also an alumnus of the Seattle University School of Law. My politics are proudly Conservative and I follow the Christian (Protestant/SBC Baptist) faith.

From 1996-2007 I owned a Seattle-style specialty coffee/espresso café chain based in Maryland, ~20 locations, and a commercial coffee roasting plant, hence my nickname, “Java.”

I have been blessed with two sons, Cam, 11, and Jake, 13, (as of August, 2009), and both share my, their grandpa’s and our extended family’s love adventure in the great outdoors. My younger boy loves to camp and get outside with us, but he has special needs so he isn’t quite ready for the guns yet; my older boy is a passionate hunter/caller, shooter, trapper and hobby taxidermist. All three of us are also very active in The Boy Scouts of America.

I returned to WA in 2010 and live there with my two sons.
